How to Prepare Artwork for DTF Transfers

Good DTF results start before the file reaches the printer. A clean, correctly sized file makes the order easier to review and helps the finished transfer match what you intended.

1. Build the artwork at its intended print size

Decide how large the design should appear on the garment before exporting it. The total height includes every visible part of the artwork, including outlines, shadows and small marks outside the main design.

Our transfer sizes support a maximum width of 13 inches. Choose the height tier that contains the complete design rather than sizing only the central graphic.

2. Use a transparent background when you do not want a box

A background that appears in the file can print. If the design should sit directly on the garment, remove the background and export a transparent PNG. Zoom in around the edges to check for a faint white box, leftover pixels or a halo from background removal.

If a background is part of the design, leave it in intentionally.

3. Send enough resolution for the final size

Aim for 300 dpi at the intended print dimensions. For a full-front design, a large original file is much better than a small image enlarged at checkout. Screenshots, social-media downloads and images copied from a website are often too small even when they look sharp on a phone.

When possible, send the original artwork rather than a compressed copy.

4. Keep text and fine details production-ready

Check spelling, dates, phone numbers and names before uploading. If you are sending a vector file, convert text to outlines or make sure the required fonts are available. Look closely at thin lines, tiny type and distressed textures; details that are barely visible on screen can be difficult to reproduce at a small print size.

5. Choose a supported file type

We accept PNG, JPG, SVG and PDF files up to 10 MB. A transparent, high-resolution PNG is a straightforward choice for most raster artwork. SVG or PDF can work well for vector designs.

Review our artwork upload terms before submitting. You must own the artwork or have permission to print it.

6. Review color with realistic expectations

Screen color and printed color can vary because displays, garment colors and materials differ. Review the file on a reliable screen, but do not treat a backlit display as an exact printed proof.

7. Add useful order notes

Use the order notes to identify the intended garment, placement, garment color or another detail that will help us understand the job. The artwork is printed as submitted unless we contact you about a clear issue, so notes should clarify the order rather than replace missing artwork.
